The challenge

One of the primary challenges in HRSG systems is dealing with high-velocity steam, which can cause vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) and pressure drops around thermowells. Vortexes and pressure drops carry to undesired phase changes in the stream or unexpected changes of the steam/water ratio when the two phases must exist in the mixture. Ensuring the integrity and performance of the thermowell is therefore essential to maintaining system efficiency and safety.

Our solution

The thermometer iTHERM ModuLine TM151 / 152 (metric / imperial) with thermowell iTHERM ModuLine TT151 / TT152 (metric / imperial) features a specific Endress+Hauser innovation, our iTHERM TwistWell for high-velocity applications. The product design of iTHERM TwistWell is inspired by the common procedure for industrial chimneys, utilizing a helix geometry. This patented helical design drastically reduces vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) by more than 90%.
