Endress+Hauser supplies instruments to Chemigate’s new production plant in Lapua
Chemigate Oy is building a new plant in Lapua for the further processing of polysaccharides
Chemigate Oy is a Finnish manufacturer of starch-based binders and adhesives for the paper and board industry, among others. The new polysaccharide modification plant to be completed in Lapua in autumn 2022 will be the first of its kind in the world.
“With the new plant, we will apply and expand our expertise in starch processing to the further processing of other polysaccharides. Our modified polysaccharides will play an important role in replacing oil-based polymers," says Aki Laine, CTO of Chemigate Oy.
Endress+Hauser is responsible for the instrumentation within the automation system of the processing plant designed by Fimpec. The process involves pressure, temperature, flow and level measurements, as well as the monitoring of water quality with liquid analyzers.
“I believe that Endress+Hauser’s strengths in the tendering process were, in addition to our wide product range, our global references and comprehensive package: we support the customer from budgeting to technical product support and commissioning,” says Kari Suomalainen, Sales Manager in charge of the account at Endress+Hauser.
For Endress+Hauser, the project started in April 2021 and equipment deliveries started in early summer 2022. The total construction costs of the new processing plant will be around seven million euros.
Hygiene and process expertise for different industries
Process reliability and health security are particularly important in the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Indeed, hygiene and process expertise are among the definite strengths of Endress+Hauser.
“Our product development takes into account all safety requirements, from hygienic design to the cleanability of equipment and connections. Endress+Hauser’s products and process experience enable measurements in accordance with laws, guidelines and standards, even in demanding applications,” Suomalainen says.
The processing plant to be built in Lapua is an important project not only for Chemigate but also for Endress+Hauser. It is expected to strengthen the company’s foothold as a partner to the Finnish chemical industry and a supplier of complete instrumentation.
“We managed to provide the customer with the highest-quality equipment and technical support on the market. We hope to be able to work on similar projects in the future as well,” Suomalainen adds.
